New Delhi: Senior BJP leader LK Advani denied any rift within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over the selection of the presidential candidate.
A news channel, Wednesday, quoted Advani as saying that there is no confusion within the NDA on the issue. He said that a meeting of alliance partners will be called at the right time to finalise candidate’s name. Advani’s ‘United NDA’ assertion gains significance as it comes just hours after his party colleague and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj met JD (U) leader and NDA convenor Sharad Yadav to clear differences on the issue.
Sushma had created ripples within the NDA naming former president APJ Abdul Kalam as the most suitable candidate. Sharad Yadav dismissed Kalam’s candidature by terming it as the opinion of BJP and Sushma. He stressed that NDA has not yet decided on its choice – a stand that was also adopted by other key ally Akali Dal.
