New Delhi: The Mary Kom Boxing Academy has been renamed as Mary Kom-SAI Boxing Academy and it will be inducting boxers under Sports Authority of India extension scheme on September 23 at the National Games Village Langol in Manipur.

The selection procedure will consist of several motor ability test and skill test.


"The academy will not have residential facilities for the selected candidates but will have a package of sports kits and monthly stipend as per their performance for 10 months," a release said.


"Intending boxers (both boys and girls) of the state who are under the age group of 12-18 years may collect forms from the office of the academy and submit the same on or before September 21," it added.


Run under the aegis of the Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation, the academy has sponsored 20 athletes under its extension scheme since 2010, in which, athletes received a monthly stipend and sports kits as per their achievements and overall performance.


This year, following the visit of Director General of SAI Injeti Srinivas to the Academy last June here in Imphal, the strength of the trainees under the scheme have been increased to 40 athletes.


"For further and fruitful association, the name of the Academy is changed to MARY KOM-SAI BOXING ACADEMY," the release added.
