Zika virus not the reason behind golfers pulling out of Rio Olympics - Read the truth!
With just three weeks left for the Rio Games to begin, Jordan Spieth became the latest golfer to withdraw from the Olympics.
New Delhi: Rio organizing committee president Carlos Nuzman has voiced his opinion, seeing four of the top golfers in the world opting to snub Rio Olympics.
As reported by golf.com, Carlos said: "They tried to blame Zika, but the media have shown that they are not coming because there's no prize money."
With just three weeks left for the Rio Games to begin, Jordan Spieth became the latest golfer to withdraw from the Olympics citing Zika virus threat. He joined other renowned names including Jason Day, Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy in blaming Zika as the reason for skipping the first Olympic golf tournament in 112 years.
Nuzman also added, "Zika is much worse in Florida than in Brazil, and golfers are playing in Florida."
Some other reasons which athletes reported for ditching the 2016 Olympic Games are - security Concerns, severe water pollution, sluggish ticket sales, etc.
