The four-hour long five-set duel produced probably the best defensive game from the Scots, who was more than willing to absorb all the missiles thrown at him. After the match, he admitted that it was indeed a tough match against one of the best servers today.

After losing the first set in 37 minutes, the 28-year-old fought back to win the second set thanks to a service break in the 12th game. But the tall Canadian, who's playing in his first Grand Slam semi-final, once again produced an impeccable service game to win the third set on tie-breaker.

Raonic, who had defeated Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils in the previous rounds, required medical attention to a foot injury at the start of the fourth set.

The brief stoppage seemed to have hindered the Canadian's game, even though there was no visible discomfort in his movement. Thereafter, Murray increased his hold on the game, winning the fourth game 6-4, after breaking the seventh game.

The final set proved to be a one-way traffic with Murray breaking Raonic twice, in the first and third games. The Briton wasted no chance to book his seventh Major final.

Murray and Djokovic have previously played the Australian Open final three times, in 2011, 2013 and 2015; each time the Serbian getting better of the Scot.
