Burdwan: A sub-inspector of Burdwan police station was on Sunday suspended for allegedly not submitting the post-mortem reports of two CPI (M) leaders who were recently killed in political violence, to his officer-in-charge.
Durgadas Bhattacharya was suspended for not submitting the post-mortem reports of former CPI(M) MLA Pradip Tah and party leader Kamal Gayen who were killed in a clash with suspected Trinamool Congress workers in Dewandihi on February 22, to the officer-in-charge of Burdwan police station, SP S N Mirza said.
The post-mortem reports were collected from the morgue of Burdwan Medical College Hospital by constable Ajay Das who handed it over to Bhattacharya on the day itself, Mirza said.
The decision to suspend the sub-inspector was taken after an enquiry, ordered by the state home department, that found him guilty, he said.
The Calcutta High Court had expressed shock at the non-submission of the post-mortem reports along with other documents during the hearing of three PILs seeking CBI enquiry into the incident, on March 2. The report was submitted later that day. The court has ordered a CID enquiry into the incident.
