New Delhi: Outraged at UP Police revealing the identity of a minor rape victim in Noida, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Monday sought a report from the state government and asked it to take action against erring policemen. NCPCR Chairperson Shanta Sinha said the rights body has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and have asked for a report. "You cast aspersions on such a vulnerable girl and that you are a public servant and you are insensitive to the vulnerability of the children. This is totally objectionable and we have taken suo-motu cognisance of this. We will write to the UP government," Sinha said.
She said the act of revealing the identity of a minor rape victim was against the Juvenile Justice Act.
"This is also a cognisable offence and I think UP government must take disciplinary action against the policemen concerned. We have asked for a report and if found true, take action," she said.
Uttar Pradesh Police has ordered an enquiry into the incident of making the victim`s identity public, UP State Women`s Commission has asked it to submit a report on the matter.
