Dinakaran is pitched against Panneerselvam-led rebel group's senior leader E Madhusudhanan for the RK Nagar Assembly constituency bypoll on April 12.

With the EC last week freezing the party's 'two leaves' election symbol and barring both groups from using the party name AIADMK after they staked claim to it, Dinakaran and Madhusudhanan are contesting the bypoll on their 'hat' and 'electric pole' symbols respectively.

The Sasikala faction was earlier asked to chose from three options - cricket bat, cap or an auto-rickshaw - by the poll panel after which they settled for 'hat' as their party symbol. It was also reported that the Sasikala faction was earlier allotted 'auto-rickshaw' as the party symbol but they pressed for 'hat'.
