Rameswaram: PMK cadres today staged a protest here to condemn the killing of an Indian fisherman allegedly by Sri Lankan Navy.

After the protest, PMK leader and Lok Sabha member Anbumani Ramadoss told reporters that Centre should take steps to protect the fishermen.


Later, the PMK leader visited the family of 22-year-old Bridgo and consoled them.


Meanwhile, District Collector L Natarajan presented a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased fisherman.


Bridgo from Thangachimadam in central Rameswaram was allegedly shot dead earlier this month when he was fishing in a mechanised boat off Katchatheevu islet, triggering protests in the state.


Earlier, Chief Minister E K Palaniswami had announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the victim's family.
