Uttar Pradesh Assembly condemns Amarnath terror attack

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday passed a unanimous resolution condemning the terror attack on Amarnath yatra pilgrims.

The House passed the resolution after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath informed members about the incident and said the terrorist attack was condemnable.

He asked members to fight against terrorism unitedly.

"We all condemn the attack on Amarnath pilgrims. The fight against terrorism is not of any particular state, we all should help in curbing it," the chief minister said.

The members condemned the attack as cowardly.

After the incident, an alert has been issued in the state amid the kanwar yatra.

"Officers have been asked to remain alert so that no unscrupulous element takes benefit and vitiates the atmosphere," he said, adding they have been asked to ensure that feelings of no one are hurt under any circumstance.

On use of loudspeakers by kanwariyas, he clarified that its use has been allowed between 6 am to 10 pm but only after permission by 'kanwar' committees by district magistrates concerned.

The kanwariyas have been asked to keep their identity cards with them.

To ensure that the month-long kanwar yatra passes off peacefully, the chief minister has already asked devotees not to play "vulgar" movie songs.

After the chief minister's statement in the House, Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chowdhury supported the resolution condemning the Amarnath attack saying that irrespective of political affiliations everyone is united against terrorism.

Later, a 2-minute silence was observed to condole the deaths in Amarnath.
