Lucknow: In an attempt to to help galvanise public support for 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan', Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday wielded a broom along with state ministers to take part in 'Swachhta Abhiyan' at Lucknow's Balu Adda Malin Basti.

The Chief Minister interacted with the local people and vowed to make the state open defecation free (ODF) by 2018.asked them to keep their surroundings clean. He also directed officials present to ensure that polythene was banned and that corporations ensured that their wards were clean.


He appealed to the people to keep their surroundings clean and make Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Swacch Bharat' mission a success. 


The Urban Development Ministry on Thursday announced the results of Swachh Survekshan, which showed Indore in Madhya Pradesh as the cleanest city in the country and Gonda in Uttar Pradesh as the dirtiest.


PM Narendra Modi's constituency Varanasi was ranked at 32.


Bhopal, another city in MP, came at second spot, followed by Visakhapatnam (Vizag) and Surat.


Swachh Survekshan


In order to foster a healthy competition between cities for improving cleanliness standards, the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) started the “Swachh Survekshan” survey, ranking of cities on cleanliness and other aspects of urban sanitation, in 2016 which ranked 73 cities across the country.
