On this day in 1943, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisted the national flag for the first time at the Gymkhana Ground (present Netaji Stadium) in Port Blair. He also announced on the island that this was the first Indian territory liberated from British rule. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was one of the brightest stars of India's independence movement.
