Zeenext Bureau Bangalore, Aug 25: All the film theatres in Bangalore, Mysore and Mandya districts will remain closed for some more time. Theatres had stopped screening of movies from July 31 after the abduction of Rajkumar by forest brigand Veerappan. Abducted film star Rajkumar, in a videotape sent through the government emissary R.R. Gopal, has appealed to the film industry to resume work. The decision not to resume work was taken at a meeting of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), which was also attended by several Kannada film personalities. Speaking to Zeenext KFCC Secretary H.N. Maruthi said, “We respect our star’s words. Rajkumar never want others to suffer because of him, that is the greatness of him. He certainly is very disturbed that the industry has stopped functioning after his kidnap. It would not be fair on our part to resume work when Rajkumar on one side asks us to resume work and on the other hand tells the police not to enter the forests.”
“There are chances of violence if theatres start screening movies. We do not want to take a risk,” Maruthi added. He said if the condition improves, the KFCC would again meet to decide upon reopening theatres.
