Avalanche strikes French ski resort, several skiers swept away

Paris: Several people are buried under snow after an avalanche hit the French ski resort of Tignes on Tuesday, first aid workers told Reuters. 

A search and rescue operation has been launched to help the people. 

In January this year, at least 29 people had died after a hotel at an Italian ski resort was struck by an avalanche. 

Nine people were pulled out alive in the first days of the rescue operation.
