SCROLL TO CONTINUE READING

New Delhi: Next time you delete a chat/message on your WhatsApp, don't be very sure about it. As per a report in The Telegraph, the deleted chats are not “exactly deleted”. They can be read by a third party.

Citing security researcher Jonathan Zdziarski, Telegraph said, there is a "forensic trace" of all chats that are stored on Apple devices. This means, whether or not your chats are deleted, cleared, or archived, it can still be read by a third party if they have access to your device.

WhatsApp encryption

WhatsApp has end-to-end encryption that ensures only you and the person you're communicating with can read what is sent. However, some traces of deleted conversations, is automatically backed up to iCloud irrespective of the fact whether or not iCloud sync is enabled. This is not encrypted and hence could be read by a third party, the Telegraph explains.

Any solution to this?

Well, the solution is not very pleasant, though there is one way to be totally sure about the deleted message. The way is delete the app entirely! But would you like to do that?
