Jalandhar, June 29: Terming registration of a case against former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his family members "as a step towards elimination of corruption", three Punjab ministers today said the action was not politically motivated and purely based on information gathered by the Vigilance Bureau. Local bodies minister Choudhary Jagjit Singh, food and civil supplies minister Avtar Henry and technical education minister Mohinder Singh Kaypee, in separate statements here, said Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had taken a "bold step" by getting a case registered against Badal for his alleged involvement in corrupt deeds during previous SAD-BJP regime.

Action against Badal was as per the Congress' promise of eliminating corruption in its poll manifesto and delay in the step was mainly due to time consumed in collecting substantial evidences against the SAD president, they said.

Jagjit Singh alleged that "corruption" had virtually been patronised during Badal's tenure as the chief minister, which was evident from the fact that the then PPSC chief Ravi Sidhu used to sell jobs for money through his agent.
