Jabalpur, June 10: Madhya Pradesh High Court here has issued notices to Madhya Pradesh Election Commission, the collector and sub-divisional officer, Katni district, in response to a writ petition challenging addition of names in the preliminary voters' list. Vacation judge Justice S K Pandey yesterday directed the respondents to file their detailed replies by June 16-- the date fixed for the next hearing of the case.

In response to the petition filed by BJP leader Alka Jain, he issued the notice after going through the records of the case and hearing the submissions of the counsel for the petitioner during the `preliminary hearing'.

The petitioner had challenged addition of nearly 47,000 voters in the preliminary voters' list of Katni Municipal Corporation.

Petitioner contended that under Rule 11 (A) of the Election Rules 1994 of M P Municipal Corporation Act, the state election commission had powers to issue directions for holding free and fair elections. Therefore, the commission should probe into the unnecessary additions in the voters' list.

The petitioner further submitted that the election commission should direct the authorities concerned to prepare fresh voters' list for Katni Municipal Corporation.
