Market LIVE updates: Sensex surges 200 points; banks, realty gain

  • The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 210.69 points or 0.67 percent at 31,502.54 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 58.60 points or 0.60 percent at 9,824.15.

  • The Nifty was up 0.45 percent at 9,809.75 as of 0637 GMT, while the Sensex was 0.53 percent higher at 31,457.52.

    Banks were among the top gainers with private-sector lender ICICI Bank rising 1.3 percent. Among state-run peers Allahabad Bank Ltd and Bank of India rose over 2.5 percent each.

    Realty stocks also gained with DLF Ltd climbing nearly 8 percent after it said an audit committee would review the status of the proposed sale of compulsorily convertible preference shares to an affiliate of Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC.

    Shares of Fortis Healthcare Ltd rose as much as 7.3 percent following a block deal worth 605.9 million rupees on Tuesday, while Goldman Sachs initiated coverage with a "buy" rating.

  • The Sensex of the BSE, after opening at 31,407.47 points, touched a high of 31,440.86 points and a low of 31,383.08 points.

    The Sensex is trading at 31,397.07 points, up by 105.22 points or 0.34 per cent.

    On the other hand, the broader 51-scrip Nifty at National Stock Exchange (NSE) opened at 9,803.05 points after closing at 9,765.55 points.

  • The 30-share index moved higher by 149.01 points, or 0.47 per cent, to 31,440.86. The gauge had gained 33 points in yesterday's session.

    All the sectoral indices led by realty, healthcare, PSU, bank and capital goods leading the gains, rising by up to 1.50 per cent.

    The National Stock Exchange index Nifty too rallied by 51.15 points, or 0.52 per cent, to trade at 9,816.70.
