New Delhi: In view of the rain-hit crisis in Chennai, the Aviation Ministry has slashed the fares of flights bound for Arakkonam air base to flat Rs 1,000.


The ministry has also slashed the price of airfares of North-bound flights from Arakkonam air base to just Rs 2,000.


As per report, railways have also started a special shuttle services from Chennai beach station to Arakkonam air base to ferry passengers.


Chennai has been reeling under the worst rainfall in over 100 years leading to loss of over 180 lives while properties worth thousands of crores have been destroyed.


In the wake of heavy rain, all major domestic carriers such as IndiGo, SpiceJet and Air India have cancelled flights to and fro from the city.


On Wednesday, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced that the Chennai international airport will remainted shut till Saturday.
