New Delhi, Oct 08: Continuing its fight on the legal front, Tamil Nadu today filed a petition in the Supreme Court, for the second time within a month, requesting it to "punish" Karnataka chief minister S M Krishna. The petition includes the names of Krishna’s cabinet colleague H K Patil and the state chief secretary for "wilfully committing gross contempt of court" by violating the apex court orders for release of Cauvery water.
The contempt petition was filed on the ground that Karnataka did not honour the Supreme Court`s October four order directing it to release 9000 cusecs (approximately 0.8 tmcft) water daily to Tamil Nadu.
The earlier contempt petition, which is still pending before the apex court, accused the respondents of not obeying the September three order by which Karnataka was directed to release 1.25 tmcft water daily.

In the present petition, the Jayalalithaa government pleaded that the neighbouring state, by willfully not obeying the orders of the court, had caused immense damage to the crops and it should be compensated for that.
It also dragged the union government into the picture by requesting the court to direct the Centre to issue a direction to Karnataka under Article 256 of the Constitution for implementing the orders of the apex court.
In another plea, the tamil nadu government requested the court to direct the registry not to list any petition, appeal or application filed by karnataka till it implemented the court`s directive. Bureau Report
