Police detain J&K cricketers who wore Pakistani jersey, sang anthem before match

The team that wore the Pakistani jersey is named after Baba Darya Ud Din, a popular saint whose shrine is situated in Ganderbal.

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir cricketers, who were recently seen wearing Pakistani jersey and singing Pakistan's national anthem during a cricket match, have been detained.

According to ANI, the club cricketers, who triggered a massive controversy with their gesture, have been detained. They were said to be absconding after the incident.

The match was played at Wayil playground in central Kashmir on April 2 when separatists had called for a bandh to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir to inaugurate the Chenani-Nashri tunnel.

The team members also sang the Pakistani national anthem before the start of the match.
