He took the primary membership of the BJP in the presence of party president Amit Shah, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari and other senior party leaders.

Lovely is known as a very influential leader, especially among the Punjabi community in the national capital.

Recently, three-time Congress MLA, Dalit leader, and ex-Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Amrish Gautam, had also joined the BJP.

Lovely's move comes amid reports of massive resentment within the Delhi Congress over ticket distribution for the upcoming MCD polls.

There were reports that veteran party leader Dr AK Wali had submitted his resignation, however, the Congress later denied that he has resigned from the party.

Other senior Delhi Congress leaders like Haroon Yusuf and Sandeep Dixit are also, reportedly, upset with the working of the state unit under Ajay Maken.
