Expert group to improve education in MCD schools, promises Congress
The Congress on Wednesday said that it will form an `expert group` after winning the Delhi civic bodies elections to improve infrastructure and teaching standards in the schools.
New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday said that it will form an "expert group" after winning the Delhi civic bodies elections to improve infrastructure and teaching standards in the schools.
The Congress's promise came during the the party's election campaign 'Dilli Ki Baat, Dil Ke Sath', which kicked off from south Delhi's Jahapana Forest Park on Wednesday morning.
Interacting with the morning walkers, senior party leader Shashi Tharoor expressed concern over the detoriating condition of the schools governed by the municipal corporations of Delhi (MCD).
"The condition of the MCD schools under the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) rule during the past 10 years has been pathetic.
"Congress will form an expert group after coming to power in the MCDs, which will include experts on education and other related fields. This expert group would suggest solutions to improve education in MCD schools," he said.
The former Union Minister also explained his party's roadmap to improve the education standard in the MCD schools to attract more children.
Highlighting the poor condition of the MCD schools in the national capital, the Congress leader said: "In the last two years, the number of children leaving MCD schools has gone up manifold. According to statistics available, between 2013 and 2016, nearly 50,000 students left MCD schools.
"Neither the MCD schools have enough number of teachers, nor the existing teachers are getting their salaries paid on time."
The Delhi Congress' roadmap for primary education in the MCD schools was unveiled by Tharoor, along with Delhi Congress President Ajay Maken, at the Constitution Club on March 29.
