Family of `dead` twins protest, demand action against Delhi hospital
The hospital had on Friday handed over pre-mature born twins to family in plastic bags declaring them to be dead.
NEW DELHI: Family members of the newborn, who was declared dead along with his still-born twin by a Delhi hospital, on Saturday staged a sit-in protest outside the hospital demanding strict action against them.
The relatives sat in protest outside the hospital last night, saying they continue to sit there until an action is taken against the hospital administration.
Situated at Delhi's Shalimar Bagh, the hospital had on Friday handed over pre-mature born twins to the family in plastic bags declaring them to be dead. On their way to the burial ground, the parents noticed that one of the twins was showing movements inside the bag.
The parents then immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors informed one of the newborn twins to be alive.
Taking notice of the negligence shown by the hospital, Union Health Minister JP Nadda has asked the Delhi government to take necessary action against the culprits.
The Delhi government ordered a probe into the incident and sought a preliminary report within three days. Dr Girish Tyagi, Registrar of the Delhi Medical Council, said that it would issue a notice to the hospital and a committee will be constituted to look into the matter.
A medical negligence case was registered under section 308 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the hospital.
