Mumbai, Sept 09: The five states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Chattisgarh and Maharashtra are likely to face power shortage as generation at the National Thermal Power Corporation’s (NTPC) Korba plant has dropped by 1,750 MW. Heavy rains and sudden release of water from the Hasdeo barrage has caused increased water flow to the plant, which choked the cooling water inlets of NTPC Korba station on the early hours Monday.

This has cut generation by 1,750 MW, an NTPC official said.
However, the western regional load despatch centre (WRLDC), of POWERGRID, has secured assistance from other neighbouring regions. Up to 500 MW has been secured from the Northern Region, the east has contributed 1,200 MW, while 250 MW has been secured from the southern Region.

In view of the increase in regional demand with the onset of morning peak, WRLDC has taken up the issue with all the constituents for distress load shedding measure also.
All the regional constituents have been asked to implement distress load shedding and to maintain the regional grid frequency in safe operating range. Bureau Report
