New Delhi, Oct 27: Reliance Infocomm, the largest WLL mobile operator, today welcomed Trai's recommendations on unification of basic and cellular licenses saying it would end "license raj" in the telecom sector even as cellular operators maintained studied silence on the issue.

Bharti, which refrained from commenting on the recommendations on unified license on the ground that the matter was before the group of ministers, made a case for compensation from the government. "It appears that if these recommendations are implemented, the fixed licenses will become infructuous for which Bharti will expect refund of license fees along with suitable compensation from dot," Bharti statement said.
The Association of Basic Telecom Operators (ABTO) welcomed the Trai's recommendations saying it would help the telecom sector grow and encourage march of technology. Despite repeated attempts, Cellular Operators' Association of India (COAI) members who were closeted in a meeting, could not be contacted for comments. Bureau Report
