Karachi, Sept 14: An intercepted satellite telephone call sparked the raid in Karachi which led to the arrest of a prime suspect in last year's September 11 attacks on the United States, a Pakistan police source said today.

The raid on an apartment on Wednesday was initially conducted by Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, before police were brought in when heavy firing broke out, the police source in the southern city said.
The ISI were operating on a tip off from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) after a satellite phone call was traced, the source said.
At least one satellite phone was recovered from the apartment.

US government sources in Washington named the man as Ramzi Binalshibh and said that he was now in US custody.
They said that Binalshibh, a Yemeni, was captured in Karachi by Pakistani authorities, accompanied by FBI agents, during the raid.
He was being held by US authorities in an undisclosed location.
A police intelligence source in Karachi said that one of the five militants arrested on Wednesday had identified himself only as Ramzi.

Intelligence agencies have launched an operation to arrest other al-Qaeda suspects in the southern city, he said.
