Kozhikode, Nov 28: In a tribute to Indian-born US astronaut Late Kalpana Chawla, the Calicut University here is holding a five-day workshop-cum-exhibition from December 1 to make students and public aware of the impact of physics in day-to-day life. Defence Minister George Fernandes would inaugurate the workshop titled "fascinating world of physics", Prof K Neelakandan, Head of Physics Department, said here today.
The workshop would take up for discussion subjects, including nuclear physics, astrophysics, material science, radiation physics and applications in medicine, Neelakandan said.

About 200 students from all over the state would participate in the programme that would comprise a counselling session to enlighten them on the avenues available to younger generations to pursue their career successfully, he said.

A large number of industrial and research organisations was expected to demonstrate some of the latest equipments that were currently used in the fields of medicine, research, teaching, industry, communication and transportation, he added.
