Patna, Aug 24: The overall flood situation in Bihar improved remarkably today with major rivers, including Gandak and Mahanadi, receding further.
At least 349 people lost their lives in the current spell of floods.
State Relief Commissioner Navin Verma told a news agency here that the overall flood situation remarkably improved in the absence of rains in the upper reaches of Nepal.
Except for Bagmati and Kosi, other rivers were flowing below their respective danger level, central water commission sources said.

A seven-member central team, headed by joint secretary in Union Agriculture Ministry Satish Chandra, here for an on-the-spot study of the situation in the flood-hit districts, today had a meeting with top officials of the state before returning to Delhi.

The team would submit its report to Union Home Ministry, Verma said adding the state government had already sought a financial assistance of Rs 1145 crore from the national calamity fund to meet the damages caused by floods.

Nearly 26 million people have been affected by the current spell of floods in more than 8000 villages spread over 25 districts of Bihar.
