Srinagar, Mar 10: The women in Kashmir today took to the streets in support of the Permanent Resident Disqualification Bill which has generated a heated debate within and outside the state.
The women, holding placards in support of the bill, marched through different streets in the city. ''We extend full support to the Bill,'' they said, adding that they would oppose any move by the Hindu fundamentalist forces to weaken the special status of the state guaranteed under article 370.
The placards read that they were ready to sacrifice their lives for the protection of article 370 and ''Kashmiriyat''. Jammu and Kashmir Trade Union Front (JKTUF) president Ishtiyaq Qadri in a statement supported the bill and assured full support to ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on it.
Qadri said any move to weaken article 370 would be foiled by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
