Mumbai, Apr 15: Taking a cue from senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon's birthday celebration stampede in Lucknow which claimed 22 lives, celluloid actor and congress nominee from north-Mumbai Lok Sabha constituency Govinda, today decided to call off his road shows to promote his candidature at the polls. Govinda told reporters here that he had decided to call off his road show due to the huge turnout of his fans during the shows, which included both women and children in large numbers.

The safety of the children being his primary concern, Govinda, who has proved to be great crowd puller on his election trail, said he had, therefore, decide to give up his road shows to avoid any mishap.

On the oft-quoted allegations that he was known to be a habitual late comer, Govinda said, "I have always maintained that though I arrived late on the sets. I often finish eight hours work in four hours flat."

"However, though I might not arrive on time, I am known to stand by people in the time of need,” he said.

To prove his detractors wrong, the star claimed that he would henceforth begin his day early, by meeting party workers, media persons at dawn.
