New Delhi, July 27: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has written to the colleges under Delhi University funded by it to abolish all posts which have been lying vacant for more than one year. The UGC has also asked the principals to expedite an ad hoc cut of ten per cent in total staff strength of the colleges. The UGC has also banned the creation of fresh posts at all levels.

The letter has also asked the principals to submit a compliance report at the earliest. The letter comes in the wake of the recommendations of the Expenditure Reforms Commission in its fifth report to the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The letter written by Mr CP Srivastava, Secretary, UGC states that, "The Secretary, Department of Secondary and Higher Education, HRD Ministry, has considered these recommendations in a meeting and has decided to implement them."
