Mumbai, Feb 05: Power failure today affected major parts of Maharashtra following a technical snag. With the exception of Mumbai and parts of Vidarbha region, major parts of Maharashtra were affected by the power failure. While 60 per cent of the power supply was restored within a hour, the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) expected the total restoration by late this evening.
MSEB chairman Asoke Basak told that there was a problem in the 400 KV line at Chandrapur which resulted in the power failure in the region. Gradually, it affected major parts of Maharashtra though parts of Vidarbha region were not affected since Koradi and Khaparkedha power stations were functioning. Anjan Roy, general manager of western region load despatch centre, said a circuit blast in the 400 KV line in the Chandrapur grid`s sub-station resulted in the technical snag.

This had a cascading effect resulting in power plants in Bhusawal, Nasik, Parali, Uran and Okhali tripping around 1420 hrs this afternoon, he added.
