Kathmandu`s waste management to be privatised
Kathmandu, Sept 07: In a bid to resolve the garbage management problem of the capital city, the Nepalese government has decided to convert Kathmandu`s solid waste into compost fertilizer with the help of a private party.
Kathmandu, Sept 07: In a bid to resolve the garbage management problem of the capital city, the Nepalese government has decided to convert Kathmandu's solid waste into compost fertilizer with the help of a private party.
A 30-year tripartite agreement was signed recently between the Solid Waste Management and Resource Mobilisation Centre, Kathmandu Municipality and Luna Nepal Chemicals and Fertilisers, a private company for the purpose.
Under the agreement, the private company will set up and operate a solid waste processing factory to process the unhazardous wastage, garbage and manufacture compost fertiliser. The government has also allocated an area of 870,684 sq ft of land in Okharpauva of Nuwakot district, 75 km south of Kathmandu, for establishing the garbage processing factory.
According to the agreement, the company would start trial production of fertiliser within two years. Kathmandu metropolis will take between 200 to 300 metric tons of solid waste daily to the project site to run the factory. Bureau Report
