Ramanathapuram (TN), June 15: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president S Balakrishnan tonight dismissed as rumours that he has resigned from the party post. “I have not resigned. I don't know who is spreading such rumours," he said.
Balakrishnan said he had also sent a fax message to AICC president Sonia Gandhi regretting "the unnecessary confusion and rumour" being spread about changes in TNCC leadership. "Such propaganda or rumour affects my morale and image and is a hurdle in the way of performing my moral duties and responsibilities," he said.
Apparently referring to reports that the AICC was contemplating changes in the state leadership, he urged the high command to clarify what it proposed to do with the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee leadership and put an end to "the continuous uncertainty and confusion". Earlier in the day, AICC general secretary in-charge of the state Kamal Nath termed as 'inaccurate' reports that the party was contemplating changes in the TNCC set up.
Earlier, in a statement in Madurai, Balakrishnan said he was temporarily suspending his tour of southern districts to discuss with office-bearers the arrangements for the centenary celebrations of K Kamaraj in view of the reports about the change in leadership. Bureau Report
