Sangareddy (AP), Mar 25: Eleven excise personnel, including two assistant excise superintendents, sustained injuries when a mob attacked them at Venkatapuram Tanda in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh today. The trouble began when a team of excise personnel from Nizamabad, went to the village and took four villagers into custody after raids on ganja fields in the village, Narayankhed inspector Mannu Lal told a news agency. The enraged villagers attacked the excise employees with steel rods, lathis and stones, leading to injuries to assistant excise superintendents Abbas Ali and Hanumantha Rao, one head constable and four constables, he said. On receiving the information that the mob attacked the excise officials and three of their colleagues were reportedly missing, an additional force led by inspector of nearby Narayankhed town rushed to the village. The search party found three injured excise constables and one civil constable in an unconscious state. Later, they were rushed to Gandhi hospital at Hyderabad, police said.
Addditional SP Indra Karan Reddy reached Narayankhed with additional force to restore peace. The situation in the village is now under control, police said. Bureau Report
