Dubai, Apr 24: The United Arab Emirates has installed heat scanners at its airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi to detect passengers suffering from high fever as a precautionary measure against the deadly SARS virus. In view of the unabated spread of SARS in countries across the world, UAE has also decided that all transit passengers coming from countries highly affected by SARS will not be allowed to get off the plane during stop-overs here, senior health ministry official Mahmoud Fekri said.
They will be kept in a special waiting hall so as to prevent contact with other passengers and these halls will be periodically disinfected.
Cabin crews have been alerted to inform authorities at the UAE airports if they suspect any passenger showing symptoms of SARS, Fekri was quoted as saying in the media.
The health ministry has advised people against travelling to countries seriously affected by SARS, he said adding the UAE was still SARS-free.
