Srinagar, Feb 01: People in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla town took to streets in protest after two teenaged sisters were today arrested by army and special operations group personnel here, police sources said
Trouble began after the security personnel arrested 19-year-old Rubina and her 18-year-old sister Yasmeena, daughters of one Ghulam Qadir Beigh this afternoon, they said.
People in the area, claiming that the sisters were innocent and were allegedly being harassed by army, closed their shops and residents took out demonstrations.
Police used cane charge to disperse the demonstrators, mostly women, they said.
The demonstrators later went to the police station and Deputy Commissioner's office demanding release of the girls.
They alleged the girls who lived close to a security camp were being constantly harassed by the army.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdul Lateef Deva was consulting top officials of the district to resolve the issue, the sources said.
