Paris, July 06: Roger Lemerre has been dismissed as coach of France following their failure to qualify from the group phase of the World Cup. The decision was taken at a meeting of the French Football Federation (FFF) in Lyon.
The 61-year-old was widely tipped for the sack after the world champions not only made a first-round exit in Korea, but also failed to win a match or score a goal. Lemerre refused to resign and although the FFF were initially reluctant to sack him, the decision became increasingly inevitable.
