The 23-year-old man in the Erfurt area of Eastern Germany tied himself up or slashed the tyres of his car on various occasions, claiming he had been attacked by masked assailants.
Under interrogation, the man admitted he had staged the elaborate hoaxes to avoid going to work, which he found boring.
