New Delhi, Nov 25: North America accounted for 64 per cent of the total computer software and services exports from India at Rs 23,429 crore followed by Europe at 23 per cent in 2001-02, according to Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC). Despite the slowdown of the US economy, in value terms, growth has been higher by 37.27 per cent over the previous year signalling that US continues to be the major export destination for India, ESC Executive Director D K Sareen said in a release.
With an export turnover of Rs 8,555 crore in 2001-02 and accounting for 23 per cent of the total exports, Europe is the second largest importer, he said adding the Far East including Japan and Republic of Korea stood third with their exports touching Rs 1,518 crore in the same period and going up by 67 per cent.
While the exports to Singapore, Hong Kong and other South-East Asian countries have notched up Rs 1467 crore, Sareen said that exports to Russia and CIS countries have increased in 2001-02 to Rs 64 crore from five crore in 2000-01.

India's export of software and services to Latin America has gone up to Rs 47 crore in 2001-02, he said.
Latin America would emerge as one of the hot destinations for export of computer software and services, Sareen added. Bureau Report
