Pota court grants six days further remand to Chand Khan
Ahmedabad, Sept 30: The special Pota court here today ordered an additional six days` police remand for Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant Chand Khan in connection with the Akshardham temple attack.
Ahmedabad, Sept 30: The special Pota court here today ordered an additional six days' police remand for Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant Chand Khan in connection with the Akshardham temple attack.
Khan was produced before Pota judge Sonia Gokani by the crime branch on expiry of 15 days if his previous remand.
Police had filed an application seeking 12 days' further custody for unearthing more facts about the conspiracy and details of more accused persons, who were absconding.
Special public prosecutor for Pota, H M Dhruv told the court that it was imperative for the investigating agency to secure additional remand of the accused as many details of the temple attack conspiracy were yet to be unearthed.
"The investigating officers are yet to ascertain the identity of the person who brought the two fidayeens from Bareilly to Ahmedabad while it is still unclear as to at whose behest Chand Khan and two other persons came to Ahmedabad,” Dhruv said.
Further details as to who brought in the weapons that were use for the temple attack and to whom all the remaining weapons were distributed in the city were yet unknown.
Defence advocate Hashim Qureshi, however, argued that these grounds were baseless for seeking further remand of an accused who had already been in police custody for 23 days.
He said that the reasons cited for extension of further remand were clear enough to doubt the efficiency of the agency.
Pota judge announced six days additional remand of Chand Khan after hearing both the advocates at length.
