New Delhi, Nov 20: A delegation of the National Commission for Women, headed by its chairperson Purnima Advani, today visited the Hostel of Maulana Azad Medical College to elicit information about the "security problems" being faced by girl students there. The commission would hold a meeting with the police commissioner and other senior officials on November 22 to discuss the issue.

Advani, who was accompanied by NCW members Nafisa Hussain, Shantha Reddy and two officials, accepted a charter of demands by the students who claimed that "they feel insecure" inside the college campus, the commission sources told a news agency. The commission has convened a meeting of Delhi Police Commissioner R S Gupta, incharge in crime against women cell Vimla Mehra, vice-chancellors of various universities, including Delhi University and principals of several colleges to discuss the security scenario in the national capital.

NCW is concerned over the increasing crimes against women in the national capital especially cases of rape, the sources said adding the commission has ensured MAMC students of full support in ensuring safety and security.

A girl student of MAMC was picked up and raped by three persons when she was trying to cross a road in front of her college last week. Bureau Report
