Vadodara, Feb 29: Tension prevailed in the sensitive Panigate area after a youth was stabbed by some unidentified miscreants near Kapurai Chowki here last night. Police sources said that one Sanjay Watekar (20) was returning to his Waghodia residence at around 2300 hrs when a gang of five miscreants on motorbikes attacked him with sharp weapons.
The victim was rushed to the SSG Hospital in a critical condition.
Denying that the incident had communal overtones, police said that the preliminary investigation indicate that Sanjay was made the target following a recent monetary dispute between his father and a motor garage owner.
Panigate police are looking for the culprits involved in the murderous attack on Sanjay.
Meanwhile, security had been beefed up in all the sensitive areas of the city to avoid recurrence of violence. The authorities had deployed 10 companies of State Reserve Police (SRP) and one company of Rapid Action Force (RAF) to maintain law and order situation in view of Muharram on March 2.
Barring last night's stabbing incident, the city which had witnessed arson and violence on last Thursday and Friday, remained incident-free for the last 48 hours, police claimed.
On last Thursday night, violence was triggered off by a 'tazia' procession in the city's Bawamanpura area in which three people were dead and about 15 others injured. Bureau Report
