Rotterdam, Feb 17: World number one Roger Federer plays novelty tennis match on a floating boat.
World number one Roger Federer played a fun game of tennis against opponents Sjeng Schalken and Martin Verkerk of the Netherlands and Rainer Schuttler of Germany on a floating tennis court on Rotterdam's Maas river on Sunday (February 15). The quartet were publicising the World Tennis ATP Tournament which begins in Rotterdam on Monday with the main match being between Schalken and Croatia's Goran Ivanisevic, who has been dealt a wildcard by the organisers. The court, on a pontoon measuring 50 by 14 metres (yards), was pushed down the river by a tug boat towards the Erasmus Bridge in the centre of Rotterdam. Soon they tired of abiding by the rules and began hitting the balls to spectators ranked along the river and on the bridges they passed. Federer said "I have very high expectations especially being number one in the world. I know myself I can win any tournament so I think Rotterdam also proved to me in the past that I can play well here".

Federer will play Arnaud Clement in his first match. His main rival will be Lleyton Hewitt who plays his first match on Wednesday.
