Chengdu, China, Mar 08: Tired of men treating roads as their toilets, a man in southwest China decided to convert his apartment into a public restroom, but his neighbours vetoed the idea for fear of the stink, reports a popular news channel. He (name of the man) stays on the first floor in an apartment building in the downtown district of Jinjiang, part of the province of Sichuan.
"There are not enough public toilets in this area and I often see people relieve themselves stealthily in the far corners of the community," He said when asked about his plans. "It's a disgrace and is bad for the environment".
Earlier this year, He told the property department of his community that he would like to turn his 110-square meter apartment into a public restroom. He said he got the idea to open a toilet, when he saw that some organisations based in the area had opened their rest rooms for public use, free of charge.
"It won't bring any inconvenience to my neighbours, if I can get the green light from the property department allowing me to fill up doors and windows with concrete and open a door directly onto the street," He said. Bureau Report
