Jaipur, Nov 16: Prominent candidates for the assembly polls in Rajasthan are financially ''well-off'', according to the affidavit filed by them along with their nomination papers. It would be interesting for the electorate to know Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's family did not own a house or a motor vehicle as per the affidavit filed by him.
Gehlot, who is seeking re-election from Sardarpura seat in his home district Jodhpur, has mentioned in his affidavit that neither he nor his wife Sunita Gehlot and their son Vaibhav Gehlot possess a house or a motor vehicle of their own.
He, however, had disclosed his share in jointly owned ancestral properties comprising agriculture land, non-agricultural land, house and plot worth about Rs 1.16 crore.
The family has over Rs nine lakh in different bank accounts and over 32 tolas of gold and silver. He also has a plot in his name in Jaipur with market value of Rs 1.5 million and Rs 1.1 million in a Sansad Vihar cooperative society of New Delhi.
State Bharatiya Janata (BJP) president and the party's chief ministerial candidate Vasundhara Raje had disclosed about Rs 2.93 crore worth of movable and immovable properties in the affidavit submitted by her.
Raje, a former union minister and presently Member of Parliament (MP) from Jhalawad Lok Sabha seat, is contesting from the Jhalrapatan constituency in Jhalawad district.
Whereas, Rama pilot, a sitting Congress MP from Dausa who is pitted against Raje in Jhalarapatan, had shown movable and immovable properties in her name valued at Rs 5.4 million.
On the directive of the Supreme Court, the Election Commission had made it compulsory for all aspirants at the hustings to file affidavits,- disclosing their criminal antecedents, educational qualifications, assets and liability, along with their nomination papers before the returning officers.
