Hyderabad, Nov 12: Bowing to pressure from main opposition Congress, Andhra Pradesh government agreed for a probe into the alleged irregularities in the State Seeds Development Corporation (APSDC) and assured the house that it would submit the enquiry report by November 19. The state agriculture minister V S Rao gave this assurance to the house after it reassembled following adjournment by speaker K Pratibha Bharathi after Congress members stalled the proceedings for over an hour demanding house committee probe into the alleged irregularities.
Raising the issue during question hour, P Chinna Reddy (Cong) alleged that the APSDC managing director was involved in many irregularities in purchase of gunny bags and demanded his suspension and a house committee probe.
Rejecting the demand, Rao said "there are some lapses in the calling of tenders, a departmental inquiry is on and action would be initiated after receiving the report."
Congress members, who were not satisfied with the reply, sought suspension of the official and a house committee inquiry, which the state government did not agree to, prompting the opposition members to rush to the podium.
Reddy alleged that the state was shielding the official who was earlier the personal secretary to the minister. Bureau Report
