Surat, Oct 13: In keeping with a court directive, Sunanda Shetty, mother of actress Shilpa Shetty, today appeared in a local court in an extortion case filed against her by a city-based saree manufacturer. Sunanda could not accompany her actress daughter on her foreign tour as the chief judicial magistrate had directed her to be personally present in the court, her lawyer Kalpesh Desai told reporters.
Surat police registered a case against Sunanda and her husband Surendra Shetty for allegedly extorting money from the saree manufacturer Pankaj Agarwal and also claimed to have recorded conversation between the Shettys and underworld gangsters to recover the money.
Shilpa's parents claimed that they were demanding only pending dues to their daughter for appearing in the ad-campaign.
The court had also rejected Sunanda's plea to hand over her passport and directed her to remain present each month till the filing of final Chargesheet against the couple.
