Veteran pace bowler Javagal Srinath has decided to retire from Test cricket. Srinath conveyed his decision to National Selection Committee chairman Chandu Borde and Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya. The pace bowler telephoned Borde Friday afternoon, informing him of his decision. Borde said that he had pointed out to Srinath that it was his(Srinath`s) decision and that the board would like him to stay.
``The fast bowler called me up again later in the evening and informed that he had also spoken to BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya of his decision.
``He said Mr Dalmiya advised him to keep his decision in abeyance till Saturday and announce a final decision after thinking it over,`` Borde said.
The chairman of the National Selection Committee praised Srinath for being a tremendous bowler who put his heart and soul into the game and always served the country with his 100 per cent.
Srinath, in tandem with Prasad, has been a force to reckon with in international cricket, although Prasad has been out of the team since last year.
``All I can say is that any decision taken by Srinath solely depends upon him and nobody can do anything about it,`` Borde pointed out. Bureau Report
