Madurai May 28: A local court here today rejected the bail plea of DMK leader M K Azhagiri who was arrested in connection with the murder of former DMK minister T Kiruttinan on May 21. Judge S Udhayan of the vacation fast track court rejected the bail plea after hearing arguments from the prosecution and Azhagiri's counsel.
The counsel for Azhagiri argued that he was not involved in any criminal cases in his life time so far. There was absolutely no proof of Azhagiri's involvement in the murder of T. Kiruttinan nor was there any enmity or quarrel between them.
However, the special prosecutor I. Subramani said there had been a quarrel over the DMK party's organisational elections between Azhagiri and Kiruttinan during the meeting at Sivaganga.
There was possibility of Azhagiri manipulating the witnesses if he was released. Normally bail was granted based on the importance and extremity of the case, he said and quoted supreme court's ruling in defence of his argument.
Finally, the judge rejected the bail petition.
